The Disability Visibility Project® started 3 years ago and encouraged over 200 people from the disability community to record their stories at StoryCorps locations across the country.
As a community partnership of StoryCorps, I am severely disappointed by reports of anti-union activities by their leadership. I am in solidarity with the hard working staff members of this organization who deserve recognition and representation, fair pay, and an improved workplace environment. They make each StoryCorps experience special by creating a safe environment so that people can be vulnerable and share their truths.
Every person’s labor is valuable and that NO ONE is disposable. If the management continues their anti-union activities, I will reconsider my affiliation with StoryCorps.
For those of you in the Disability Visibility Project® community who recorded your story at one of their booths or used their app, send a message to their CEO Robin Sparkman and founder Dave Isay about your experiences and your position on workers’ rights. Tell them to recognize the StoryCorps union.
With respect and solidarity,
Alice Wong, Founder, Disability Visibility Project®
